24-Hour Urinary Glucose Excretion
Purpose of the test:
- The test determines the amount of glucose excreted in urine over 24 hours.
- The test is used for diagnosing and monitoring diabetes mellitus, metabolic disorders, and kidney diseases.
- Particularly recommended when glucosuria is suspected or for assessing therapy efficacy.
What the test assesses:
- Glucose amount in urine — metabolic status monitoring.
- Daily glucose excretion — diabetes compensation indicator.
Biomaterial: c24-hour urine collection
- Collect all urine over 24 hours in a clean container.
- Avoid intense physical exertion and alcohol consumption on the collection day.
Medications: if possible, avoid taking drugs affecting glucose levels (insulin adjustment strictly per physician's prescription) 24-48 hours before the test.
- Normal: glucose in urine absent or minimal.
- Elevation: glucosuria detected, may indicate diabetes decompensation, kidney filtration function disorder, or other metabolic disorders.
- Significant elevation: requires endocrinologist consultation and therapy correction.
