Acid phosphatase (ACP)
Supplementary marker of prostate gland diseases. Used for suspected metastatic process in bones and prostate tissue.
What the test evaluates:
- Acid phosphatase activity in blood
- Indirectly reflects malignant process activity in prostate or bone tissue
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting
Medications:
- Hormonal and antitumor therapy may affect results
- Inform physician of all medications taken
- Therapy discontinuation only by physician prescription
Recommended for:
- Prostate gland diseases
- Suspected metastatic lesion
Results evaluated considering clinical data, other oncomarkers, and instrumental studies.
Normal: acid phosphatase activity within reference values; low probability of metastatic process
Elevated: may indicate bone metastases in prostate cancer; possible in prostatitis, benign prostate hyperplasia; elevated values require further examination and complex interpretation.
