ADAMTS-13 Protease Activity
ADAMTS-13 protease activity assesses the functionality of the enzyme that cleaves multimeric forms of von Willebrand factor (vWF) in the blood.
This is important for preventing excessive thrombus formation and development of microangiopathic thrombotic conditions.
The study allows detection of ADAMTS-13 deficiency or dysfunction and diagnosis of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP).
Test composition:
• Material: venous blood (plasma)
• Method: enzyme immunoassay or fluorescent method using a substrate for ADAMTS-13
• Determined indicator: percentage of enzyme functional activity relative to normal
Mechanism of abnormalities: decrease — hereditary ADAMTS13 gene mutations or acquired autoimmune processes. Low activity leads to vWF multimer accumulation, increased thrombus formation, and risk of microangiopathic organ damage.
Biomaterial: Venous blood (plasma)
• Submit blood fasting
• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
• Avoid physical exertion and stress 30 minutes before the test
Medications:
• If taking anticoagulants, immunomodulators, or hormonal medications, inform the doctor before the test.
Prescribed for:
• Suspected thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP)
• Recurrent microangiopathic thrombosis
• Unexplained thrombocytopenia or hemolytic anemia
• Acute conditions with microcirculation disorders
• Monitoring therapy for diseases related to ADAMTS-13 deficiency
Recommended for:
• Patients with suspected TTP
• People with recurrent small vessel thrombosis
• Patients with unexplained thrombocytopenia or hemolytic anemia
Reference values depend on the laboratory method and are indicated on the result form.
Decreased activity indicates microangiopathic thrombosis risk and requires immediate physician assessment. Abnormalities are assessed together with the clinical picture and other laboratory indicators.
