Albumin

The test determines the blood albumin level — the main plasma protein produced in the liver. Albumin is responsible for maintaining blood oncotic pressure, transporting hormones, vitamins, medications, and other substances, and reflects protein metabolism and liver function.

Decreased albumin is possible with: liver diseases, protein loss through kidneys or intestines, chronic inflammation, malnutrition, fasting, burns, injuries, after surgeries.
Elevated albumin is possible with: dehydration, pronounced fluid loss.

Recommended for testing:

  • patients with liver and kidney diseases
  • with swelling present
  • people with chronic diseases
  • with sharp weight loss
  • patients receiving long-term treatment

Biomaterial: Venous blood

  • Submit fasting (8-12 hours without food)
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
  • Avoid intense physical exertion
  • Avoid smoking and stress 30 minutes before
  • Liver diseases (hepatitis, cirrhosis)
  • Kidney diseases (nephrotic syndrome)
  • Swelling of unclear origin
  • Chronic inflammatory diseases
  • Prolonged infections
  • Exhaustion, protein deficiency
  • GI diseases with absorption disorder
  • Monitoring status in oncological diseases
