Albumin/creatinine ratio (ACR) in a spot urine sample

The test determines the albumin-to-creatinine ratio in a spot urine sample - an important marker of early kidney damage, especially in patients with diabetes mellitus or hypertension. Used to detect microalbuminuria and assess the risk of kidney disease progression.

Mechanism of deviations: an elevated albumin/creatinine ratio in urine indicates damage to kidney filtration function and the onset of protein excretion.

Who should be tested:

  • Persons with diabetes mellitus or hypertension
  • With chronic kidney diseases
  • For early nephropathy diagnosis
  • To monitor therapy efficacy and prevent complications

Biomateri: Spot urine sample

  • Collect a spot urine sample in a clean container
  • Exclude intense physical activity and stress 24 hours before
  • Avoid overexertion before collection

Medications: if taking drugs affecting kidneys or protein metabolism - inform the physician

  • Suspected early stages of kidney damage
  • Monitoring of patients with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, or cardiovascular diseases
  • Therapy monitoring in chronic kidney diseases
  • Changes in diuresis, edema, or elevated blood pressure

Normal - albumin/creatinine ratio within reference values

Elevated - indicates microalbuminuria, requires physician consultation for kidney function assessment and therapy adjustment

Consult a general practitioner or nephrologist with test deviations.

Self-treatment is not recommended!
