AMA (antimitochondrial antibodies)
The test detects antimitochondrial antibodies — autoantibodies directed against cell mitochondria. Used to diagnose autoimmune liver diseases, especially primary biliary cholangitis, and to assess disease activity.
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting 8-12 hours;
- exclude alcohol 24 hours before;
- avoid stress and physical activity 30 minutes before.
- Inform physician of immunomodulator, anti-inflammatory, or liver medication intake.
- Suspected autoimmune liver damage;
- elevated liver enzyme levels (ALT, AST, alkaline phosphatase) without obvious cause;
- jaundice, skin itching, or fatigue;
- chronic liver disease differential diagnosis;
- positive ANA or other autoimmune marker results.
Negative — AMA antibodies not detected.
Positive — antibodies detected; indicates high autoimmune liver damage risk or presence.
Note: Positive result evaluated together with clinical picture, liver biochemistry, and other data.
