AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone)

The test determines the level of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) — the protein produced by ovarian cells in women and testicular cells in men. In women, AMH reflects the quantity and quality of eggs, i.e., ovarian reserve. In men, AMH is used to assess testicular function, especially with sexual development disorders. Used in infertility diagnosis, pregnancy planning, IVF strategy selection, and endocrine disease therapy monitoring.

What the test evaluates:

  • Ovarian reserve in women (number of follicles capable of maturation)
  • Leydig and Sertoli cell function in men
  • Risk of premature ovarian depletion and potential reproductive capacity

Biomaterial: Venous blood (serum)

  • Draw blood fasting
  • Exclude intense physical activity and stress 24 hours before
  • Recommended day 2-5 of menstrual cycle (for reproductive-age women)

Medications:

  • Hormonal drugs, contraceptives, and ovulation stimulators may affect results
Medication discontinuation only by physician agreement

Recommended for:

  • Pregnancy planning, infertility, IVF preparation
  • Hormonal disorders, polycystic ovary, irregular cycle
  • Sexual development assessment in boys and testicular function evaluation

Low AMH: may indicate reduced ovarian reserve, perimenopause, premature ovarian depletion

Normal AMH: adequate ovarian reserve, successful fertilization probability

Elevated AMH: may indicate polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or hyperstimulation

Results interpreted considering age, menstrual cycle, and associated studies.
