Anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (Anti-TPO) (Anti-Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies, Anti-TPO, Serum)
The test determines the level of antibodies to thyroid peroxidase — the enzyme necessary for thyroid hormone synthesis. The primary marker of autoimmune thyroid damage. Used for early autoimmune thyroiditis diagnosis and disease course monitoring. Recommended for chronic fatigue, weight fluctuations, hair loss, heart rhythm disorders.
What the test evaluates:
- Concentration of anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies in blood serum
- Risk and activity of autoimmune thyroid inflammation
Biomaterial: Venous blood (serum)
- Draw blood fasting
- Exclude physical activity 24 hours before
Medications:
- If possible, do not take thyroid hormones 24-48 hours before (consult physician)
- Iodine preparations and biotin may affect results
- Inform physician of all medications taken

Elevated antibody level: indicates autoimmune process (thyroiditis, Hashimoto's disease, diffuse toxic goiter)
