Ascariasis (Ascaris lumbricoides) IgG antibodies

Detects IgG antibodies to Ascaris lumbricoides — parasitic roundworm causing ascariasis. Larvae migrate through the body; adult forms live in the intestine. Infection may cause cough (migratory stage), allergic reactions, abdominal pain, digestive disorders.

IgG features:

  • 'memory antibodies' appearing after organism contact;
  • may be positive with current or past infection;
  • for active ascariasis, physician often recommends stool helminth egg examination (repeat 2-3 times).

Infection routes:

  • dirty hands;
  • unwashed vegetables/berries;
  • soil/sand contact.

Recommended for:

  • children;
  • elevated eosinophils;
  • unexplained allergy;
  • frequent intestinal complaints.

Biomaterial: Venous blood

  • Draw blood fasting (8-12 hours without food)
  • Water is permitted
  • Exclude fatty food and alcohol 24 hours before
  • No smoking 30 minutes before

Medications: If taking antiparasitic drugs, hormonal drugs, or immunosuppressants — inform physician; dose adjustment is usually not required unless directed by physician
