Aspergillus galactomannan antigen, ELISA
Detects galactomannan — a cell wall component of Aspergillus fungi. Used for early invasive aspergillosis diagnosis in immunodeficient patients.
Deviation mechanism: Aspergillus proliferation releases galactomannan into blood → elevated level indicates fungal infection.
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting if possible
- Exclude alcohol 24 hours before
- Avoid stress and physical activity 30 minutes before
- Suspected invasive aspergillosis;
- unexplained fever in immunocompromised patients;
- pneumonia or systemic fungal infection symptoms;
- aspergillosis treatment monitoring.
Negative — galactomannan not detected; active infection unlikely.
Positive — galactomannan detected; possible invasive fungal infection.
Results evaluated with clinical data and other studies.
