Beta-2-microglobulin (beta-2-Microglobulin, Serum)
Marker of lymphoproliferative diseases. Used for lymphomas, multiple myeloma, and leukemias. Reflects immune system condition and kidney function.
What the test evaluates:
- Beta-2-microglobulin level in blood
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting
Medications:
- Immunosuppressants and antitumor therapy may affect results
- Inform physician of all medications taken
- Therapy discontinuation only by physician prescription
Recommended for:
- Blood system diseases
- Lymphomas and myeloma
- Kidney pathology
Results evaluated together with clinical data, kidney function indicators, and other lab markers.
Normal: beta-2-microglobulin within reference values; no signs of active lymphoproliferative process
Elevated:
- characteristic of lymphomas, multiple myeloma, leukemias;
- may indicate high tumor burden and unfavorable prognosis;
- possible with reduced kidney function and chronic inflammation
Indicator used for disease activity assessment and treatment monitoring.
