Blood Clotting Time, Sukharev Method
Purpose of the test:
- The test assesses blood clotting ability and the functional state of the hemostasis system.
- Detects clotting disorders, elevated bleeding risk, or thrombosis tendency.
- Used as a screening test for initial assessment of the coagulation system.
- Applied when preparing for surgical procedures, invasive interventions, and monitoring therapy affecting hemostasis.
- Recommended for bleeding tendency, frequent nosebleeds, prolonged wound healing, and bruise appearance.
Biomaterial: Capillary blood
- Submit fasting.
- Avoid physical exertion and stress for 24 hours.
- Avoid smoking and emotional strain before the test.
Medications: anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, NSAIDs, and aspirin may affect results. Discontinuation only with physician approval.
What the test assesses:
- Blood clotting time by the Sukharev method.
- Rate of blood clot formation.
- Quality and stability of the formed clot.
- Normal: adequate blood clotting rate and preserved hemostasis function.
- Prolonged clotting time: elevated bleeding risk, possible coagulation factor deficiency, or platelet function disorder.
- Shortened clotting time: tendency toward thrombosis.
Which doctor to consult:
- General practitioner — for general coagulation system assessment
- Hematologist — when blood diseases or hemostasis disorders are suspected
- Surgeon — when preparing for surgical procedures
- Anesthesiologist — for assessing bleeding risk before surgery
