Blood hemoculture with antibiotic and antifungal sensitivity determination
Detects bacteria or fungi in blood. Diagnoses bacteremia, sepsis, and other severe infectious conditions; determines pathogen antibiotic sensitivity.
Deviation mechanism: Same as blood sterility culture — bacteria/fungi blood entry → cultured in nutrient media → grown, identified, sensitivity determined.
Recommended for: severe infection signs; suspected sepsis; prolonged fever of unclear origin; immunocompromised patients.
Venous blood
No special preparation required
Preferably collect before antibiotic therapy
Multiple blood draws with intervals possible by physician prescription
Fever of unclear origin; suspected sepsis or generalized infection; chills, weakness, intoxication; prolonged infectious diseases; before or during antibiotic therapy.
Organism growth — blood infection confirmed; drug sensitivity listed.
No growth — microorganisms not detected.
Physician makes final assessment.
Note: Sensitivity testing only when clinically significant organism detected.
Recommended physicians: General Practitioner; Infectious disease specialist (severe infection/sepsis); Inpatient physician.
