CA 125 (Ovarian cancer)
Main oncomarker of epithelial ovarian cancer. Used for early detection of malignant ovarian neoplasms, extent assessment, treatment efficacy monitoring, and recurrence control. Also applied in combination with other examination methods for pelvic mass lesions.
What the test evaluates:
- CA-125 oncomarker level in blood serum
- Activity of epithelial origin tumor process
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Fasting is recommended
- Exclude alcohol and intense physical activity 24 hours before
Medications:
- Hormonal drug intake may affect test result
- Inform physician of all medications taken
Recommended for:
- Ovarian cysts, tumor-like formations, menstrual cycle disorders
- Diagnosis, treatment efficacy assessment, and dynamic monitoring for ovarian cancer
- Lower abdominal pain of unclear origin, abdominal volume increase, chronic weakness
Important: CA-125 level is not used as the sole diagnostic method and evaluated together with ultrasound, MRI, and clinical data.
Elevated CA-125 possible with: epithelial ovarian cancer; endometriosis; pelvic inflammatory diseases; pregnancy; liver diseases and serous membrane diseases
