CA 15-3 (Cancer Antigen 15-3, Breast Cancer)
CA 15-3 oncomarker is applied for diagnosis and dynamic monitoring of breast cancer. Used for treatment efficacy assessment, possible recurrence control, and detection of lymph node or other organ metastatic lesion.
What the test evaluates:
- CA 15-3 concentration in blood serum
- Tumor process dynamics and therapy efficacy
- Disease progression or recurrence risk
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting
- Exclude intense physical activity 12 hours before
- Limit alcohol 24 hours before
Medications:
- Chemotherapeutic drugs, hormonal therapy, and some immunomodulating agents may affect results
- Inform physician of all medications taken
Recommended for:
- Confirmed or suspected breast cancer, treatment monitoring, and dynamic follow-up
- Detected formations or suspected malignant breast tumors
- Comprehensive examination of women with breast cancer risk factors
Important: CA 15-3 level is not used as the sole diagnostic criterion for breast cancer. Results evaluated together with clinical data, mammography, ultrasound, MRI, and other oncomarkers.
Elevated CA 15-3 possible with:
- breast cancer;
- liver, lung, or bone metastatic lesion;
- benign breast diseases (fibrocystic mastopathy, mastitis);
- inflammatory processes and some liver diseases
