CA 19-9 (Cancer Antigen 19-9, Serum)
Oncomarker of pancreatic and gastrointestinal tract tumors. Used for detection and clarification of malignant pancreatic, bile duct, gastric, and intestinal neoplasms. Applied for extent assessment, treatment efficacy monitoring, and dynamic patient monitoring after therapy.
What the test evaluates:
- CA 19-9 oncomarker level in blood serum
- Activity and dynamics of GI tract tumor process
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Fasting is recommended
- Exclude alcohol, fatty food, and intense physical activity 24 hours before
Medications:
- Some medications may affect test results
- Inform physician of all medications taken
Recommended for:
- Suspected malignant pancreatic and GI tumors, and treatment monitoring
- Chronic pancreatitis, obstructive jaundice, prolonged dyspeptic complaints
- Abdominal mass lesions and before surgery
- Unexplained weight loss, abdominal pain, persistent digestive disorders
Important: CA 19-9 level is not used as the sole diagnostic method and evaluated only together with clinical data, ultrasound, CT, MRI, and other lab studies.
Elevated CA 19-9 possible with: pancreatic cancer; gastric, intestinal, bile duct tumors; chronic and acute pancreatitis; cholestasis and obstructive jaundice; cirrhosis and liver inflammatory diseases
