CA-242 (Cancer Antigen 242, GI tract, pancreas)
CA 242 oncomarker is applied for diagnosis of GI tract and pancreatic malignant tumors. Used for early neoplasm detection, tumor extent assessment, treatment efficacy monitoring, and dynamic patient monitoring.
What the test evaluates:
- CA 242 oncomarker concentration in blood serum
- Tumor process activity
- Disease progression risk or tumor recurrence
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Fasting is recommended
- Exclude food intake 8-12 hours before
- Exclude alcohol and intense physical activity 24 hours before
Medications:
- Chemotherapeutic drugs, hormonal agents, and GI tract drugs may affect results
- Inform physician of all medications taken
Recommended for:
- Diagnosis and monitoring of GI tract and pancreatic tumors; treatment efficacy assessment and follow-up
- Suspected GI tumors, chronic pancreatitis, prolonged dyspeptic complaints, unexplained weight loss
- Patient condition monitoring after GI tract and pancreatic surgery
- Comprehensive examination of patients with elevated oncological risk
Important: CA 242 level is not used as the sole diagnostic criterion and must be evaluated only together with clinical data, instrumental studies (ultrasound, CT, MRI, endoscopy), and other lab indicators.
Elevated CA 242 possible with:
- pancreatic cancer;
- gastric and intestinal tumors;
- chronic GI inflammatory diseases;
- benign liver and pancreatic diseases
