Ceruloplasmin
The test determines the ceruloplasmin level — a protein involved in copper transport and cellular antioxidant protection. Used to diagnose copper metabolism disorders including Wilson's disease, and for inflammatory process and liver disease assessment.
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting 8-12 hours;
- exclude fatty food and alcohol 24 hours before;
- avoid stress and physical activity 30 minutes before.
- Inform physician of hormonal, immune, or anti-inflammatory drug intake.
- Inform physician of copper preparation or chelator intake.
- Suspected Wilson's disease;
- liver changes (hepatitis, cirrhosis);
- unexplained neurological symptoms (tremor, coordination disorders);
- corneal pigmentation (Kayser-Fleischer ring);
- blood copper level deviations;
- hereditary copper metabolism diseases.
Low level — may indicate Wilson's disease or copper deficiency.
Elevated level — may occur with inflammatory processes, infections, pregnancy.
