Complement Component C3
The test assesses the level of complement component C3 — an immune system protein involved in protecting the body from infections and in inflammatory reactions. Used for diagnosing inflammatory, autoimmune, and immunodeficiency diseases.
Mechanism of abnormalities: decreased C3 level may indicate autoimmune tissue damage or increased complement consumption in inflammatory processes. Elevation may be observed in acute inflammation.
Recommended for:
- people with autoimmune diseases
- with chronic inflammatory processes
- for monitoring the body's immune status
- with recurrent infections
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Submit fasting (8-12 hours without food)
- Do not drink water
- Avoid intense physical exertion, stress, and alcohol consumption for 24 hours
Medications: if taking immunomodulators, hormonal, or anti-inflammatory medications — inform the doctor
- Suspected autoimmune diseases (systemic lupus erythematosus)
- Chronic inflammatory processes
- Unexplained infections or recurrent infectious diseases
- Monitoring therapy in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases
Normal — complement C3 level within reference values
Abnormality — requires physician assessment to determine the cause of change and choose further tactics
Which doctor to consult:
For test abnormalities, consultation with an immunologist or general practitioner is recommended. The doctor evaluates laboratory results, correlates them with the clinical picture, and if needed prescribes treatment or additional examinations.
Self-treatment is not recommended!
