Cytomegalovirus DNA, Prostatic Fluid/Semen (PCR)
The study is conducted to detect cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA in prostatic secretion or semen.
Used for diagnosing chronic or local urogenital CMV infection.
Applied for fertility disorders, chronic inflammatory diseases of the urogenital tract, and preparation for IVF programs.
Allows determination of the virus's possible role in inflammatory and reproductive disorders.
What the test assesses:
– Presence of CMV DNA in the biomaterial (prostatic secretion or semen).
– Possible virus activity and its effect on inflammatory processes and reproductive functions.
– Helps the physician assess the need for antiviral therapy and reproductive health correction.
Biomaterial: Prostatic fluid or semen
– Sexual abstinence for 2-5 days before submission.
– Avoid alcohol consumption for 48 hours.
– Avoid overheating (sauna, steam bath) for 48 hours.
Medications:
– If possible, discontinue antiviral medications 48-72 hours before.
– Do not take antibiotics for 5-7 days (if the clinical situation allows).
– If discontinuation is not possible, be sure to inform the doctor of all medications taken.
Recommended for testing:
– With chronic prostatitis, urethritis, and inflammatory diseases of the urogenital tract.
– With infertility, decreased sperm quality, and reproductive function disorders.
– When local urogenital CMV infection is suspected.
– When preparing for IVF and assessing reproductive risk.
– Positive result: CMV DNA detected, indicating presence of the virus and possible role in urogenital inflammatory or reproductive disorders. Clinical significance assessment by a physician is required, and if necessary, antiviral treatment.
– Negative result: CMV DNA not detected, active infection is unlikely.
Important — the result should be interpreted together with the clinical picture, serological tests, and semen analysis in case of fertility disorders.
