Cytomegalovirus DNA, Saliva (PCR)
The study is designed to detect cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA in saliva by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method.
Used for diagnosing active viral shedding and confirming active infection.
Applied for screening and monitoring infection, especially in children, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals.
Allows detection of the virus at an early stage and assessment of treatment efficacy.
What the test assesses:
– Presence of CMV DNA in saliva.
– Fact of local virus activity, indicating potential infectiousness and current infection.
– Allows distinguishing active viral shedding from a latent virus state.
Biomaterial: Saliva
– Do not eat or drink for 30 minutes before submission.
– Do not brush teeth or use mouth rinses.
– Do not smoke for 30 minutes before the test.
Medications:
– If possible, avoid antiviral medications for 48 hours.
– Do not use local oral antiseptics for 24 hours.
– Be sure to inform the doctor about all medications taken before submitting the test.
Recommended for testing:
– When active CMV infection is suspected.
– When examining children to detect active infection and virus transmission risk.
– With decreased immunity or treatment monitoring.
– When examining pregnant women to assess fetal infection risk.
– With symptoms of viral infection of unclear origin.
– Positive result: indicates presence of CMV DNA in saliva, confirming active viral shedding.
– Negative result: CMV DNA not detected; active infection at the time of testing is unlikely.
Important — for final interpretation, the physician considers the clinical picture, serological test results (IgG/IgM), and concomitant tests.
