Demodex Eye Mite Test
Purpose of the test:
- Demodex eye test is a laboratory examination of eyelashes and eyelid margins for the presence of the Demodex mite.
- Used for diagnosing chronic blepharitis, eye itching, redness, and discomfort.
- Particularly recommended for chronic eyelid inflammation, frequent conjunctivitis, and ineffective standard therapy.
Biomaterial: Eyelashes and eyelid margins
- Avoid eye ointments, drops, and cosmetics for 1-2 days before the test.
- Avoid mechanical rubbing of eyelids and eyelashes.
Medications: if possible, avoid anti-inflammatory and antiseptic drugs 24-48 hours before the test.
What the test assesses:
- Presence of Demodex mites on eyelashes and eyelids.
- Degree of inflammation and parasitic invasion activity.
- Negative result: mites not detected or count within normal range.
- Positive result: Demodex mites detected, count above normal — confirms eyelid demodicosis.
- Degree of involvement: mite count and affected zone help assess inflammation severity and parasitic process activity.
