DNA Brucella melitensis — PCR, qualitative
Detects Brucella melitensis DNA — bacteria causing brucellosis. PCR detects genetic material even when traditional methods (blood culture, serology) fail. Used for accurate diagnosis of acute and chronic brucellosis, especially with negative other tests and persisting symptoms.
Infection routes:
- contact with infected animals (cows, sheep, goats);
- consuming unpasteurized dairy products;
- through damaged skin or mucous membranes;
- poor hygiene when working with animals.
Recommended for:
- agricultural animal workers;
- unpasteurized milk or cheese consumers;
- suspected chronic brucellosis;
- negative serological tests.
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting (6-12 hours without food)
- Exclude alcohol 24 hours before
- No smoking 1-2 hours before
Medications: If taking antibiotics or immunomodulators — inform physician; collect before treatment if possible
- Prolonged fever;
- loss of appetite, weakness, fatigue;
- night sweats;
- muscle and joint pain;
- enlarged liver and spleen;
- suspected brucellosis after animal or animal product contact;
- negative serological tests with symptoms.
Note: Test detects even small bacterial DNA fragments.
Negative — B. melitensis DNA not detected.
Positive — B. melitensis DNA detected; confirms infection.
Infectious disease parasitologist consultation recommended. Self-treatment not recommended.
