DNA CMV (Cytomegalovirus) — PCR, quantitative (saliva)
Quantitative PCR for CMV in saliva. Saliva is a main CMV shedding substrate. Especially informative for pregnant women, children, and immunodeficient patients.
Biomaterial: Saliva
- Do not eat or drink 2-3 hours before
- Do not brush teeth or use mouthwash before
- Exclude smoking 2 hours before
Medications: Antiviral drugs may affect viral load — inform physician
- Suspected primary CMV;
- chronic/reactivated CMV monitoring;
- immunodeficiency;
- recurrent viral diseases;
- pregnant women;
- newborn monitoring.
Positive — CMV DNA in saliva with viral load; high values = active infection.
Low viral load — latent or mildly symptomatic.
Negative — not detected.
Final interpretation by physician.
