DNA Diphyllobothrium latum (broad tapeworm) — PCR, qualitative

Detects Diphyllobothrium latum DNA — parasitic tapeworm (broad fish tapeworm) causing diphyllobothriasis. PCR detects genetic material even when eggs/larvae destroyed.

Infection routes:

  • consuming poorly cooked or raw freshwater fish;
  • contact with contaminated water;
  • poor hygiene.

Recommended for:

  • consumers of raw or insufficiently cooked fish;
  • chronic intestinal symptoms;
  • negative microscopy results;
  • reduced hemoglobin or anemia.

Biomaterial: Stool

  • Do not take laxatives 2-3 days before
  • Do not use enemas or rectal suppositories
  • Collect stool naturally; exclude urine and water contamination
  • Use sterile container; collect from 3-5 different areas
  • Deliver within 2-3 hours; store at +2 to +8°C up to 8-12 hours if needed

Medications: If taking antiparasitic drugs — inform physician; collect before treatment if possible
Note: PCR testing after treatment usually not earlier than 2-3 weeks.
