DNA Dirofilaria immitis — PCR, qualitative
Detects Dirofilaria immitis DNA — parasitic nematode causing dirofilariasis in humans and animals. PCR detects genetic material even when larvae or worm fragments are not detectable by microscopy.
Infection routes:
- mosquito bites transmitting parasite larvae;
- contact with infected animals;
- poor hygiene.
Recommended for:
- suspected dirofilariasis;
- chronic or unexplained symptoms;
- negative blood microscopy;
- pet owners especially dog owners.
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting (8-12 hours without food)
- Exclude fatty food and alcohol 24 hours before
- Do not take immunity-affecting medications without physician notification
Medications: If taking antiparasitic drugs or immunomodulators — inform physician; collect before treatment if possible
- Suspected parasitic infection;
- chest or abdominal pain;
- elevated temperature without obvious cause;
- weakness, fatigue;
- subcutaneous or internal nodules;
- negative microscopy with symptoms.
Note: Test detects even small parasite DNA fragments.
Negative — D. immitis DNA not detected.
Positive — D. immitis DNA detected; confirms parasite presence.
Infectious disease parasitologist consultation recommended. Self-treatment not recommended.
