DNA Echinococcus granulosus — PCR, qualitative
Detects Echinococcus granulosus DNA — parasite causing echinococcosis (cyst formation in liver, lungs, and other organs). PCR may be used as an additional diagnostic method when echinococcosis is suspected. Diagnosis is usually established based on clinical data and imaging (ultrasound, CT, MRI).
Infection routes:
- contact with infected animals (dogs, sheep);
- consuming unwashed vegetables, fruits, greens;
- contaminated water; poor hygiene.
Recommended for:
- suspected echinococcosis;
- cysts detected in liver, lungs, or other organs;
- persons in contact with animals.
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting (8-12 hours without food)
- Exclude alcohol and fatty food 24 hours before
Medications: If taking antiparasitic drugs — inform physician; preferably collect before treatment
- Abdominal or chest pain;
- enlarged liver or other organs;
- weakness, fatigue;
- induration or cysts on ultrasound/CT/MRI;
- suspected parasitic infection.
Note: Test detects even small parasite DNA fragments.
Negative — E. granulosus DNA not detected.
Positive —
- E. granulosus DNA detected;
- may indicate parasite presence;
- clinical interpretation by physician required.
Physician consultation required at positive result.
At positive result: infectious disease parasitologist recommended; for liver/lung cysts — additional evaluation by hepatologist or surgeon may be needed.
