DNA Toxoplasma gondii — PCR, qualitative (blood)
Detects Toxoplasma gondii DNA — parasite causing toxoplasmosis. PCR detects genetic material even when traditional methods (serology, microscopy) fail. Used for accurate acute or chronic infection diagnosis, especially with negative serological tests and symptoms.
Infection routes:
- contact with cats or their feces;
- poorly cooked meat;
- unwashed vegetables, fruits, water;
- poor hygiene.
Recommended for:
- pregnant women;
- immunocompromised patients;
- acute or chronic infectious symptoms;
- negative serology with symptoms.
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting (8-12 hours without food)
- Water is permitted
- Exclude fatty food and alcohol 24 hours before
- No smoking 30 minutes before
Medications: If taking immunomodulators or antiparasitic drugs — inform physician; collect before treatment if possible
- Elevated temperature without obvious cause;
- weakness, fatigue;
- headache;
- muscle and joint pain;
- suspected infection in pregnant women;
- negative serological tests with symptoms.
Note: Test detects even small parasite DNA fragments.
Negative — T. gondii DNA not detected.
Positive — T. gondii DNA detected; confirms infection.
Infectious disease parasitologist consultation recommended. At pregnancy: also consult gynecologist. Self-treatment not recommended.
