DNA Yersinia enterocolitica — PCR, qualitative
Detects Yersinia enterocolitica DNA — bacteria causing yersiniosis (intestinal infection). PCR is more sensitive than microscopy or culture and detects bacterial genetic material even when traditional methods fail.
Infection routes:
- unwashed vegetables, fruits, berries;
- poorly cooked meat especially pork;
- contact with infected animals;
- contaminated water;
- poor hygiene.
Recommended for:
- persons with acute or chronic intestinal symptoms;
- negative microscopy or stool culture results;
- suspected food infection after animal product contact.
Biomaterial: Stool
- Do not take laxatives 2-3 days before
- Do not use enemas or rectal suppositories
- Collect stool naturally; exclude urine and water contamination
- Use sterile container; collect from 3-5 different areas
- Deliver within 2-3 hours; store at +2 to +8°C up to 8-12 hours if needed
Medications: If taking antiparasitic drugs — inform physician; collect before treatment if possible
Note: PCR testing after treatment usually not earlier than 2-3 weeks.
- Diarrhea, abdominal pain;
- nausea, vomiting, reduced appetite;
- weakness, fatigue;
- elevated temperature without obvious cause;
- suspected intestinal infection after contaminated food;
- negative microscopy or bacteriological culture with symptoms.
Note: Test detects even small bacterial DNA fragments.
Negative — Y. enterocolitica DNA not detected.
Positive — Y. enterocolitica DNA detected; confirms infection.
Physician consultation required at positive result.
Infectious disease parasitologist consultation recommended. Self-treatment not recommended.
