EBV. IgM antibodies to early antigen EA of Epstein-Barr virus (Anti-EBV Early Antigen (EA) IgM, Serum)
The study is aimed at detection of IgM antibodies to the early antigen (EA) of EBV. Used for diagnosis of active or reactivated EBV infection. Prescribed for prolonged disease course, lasting intoxication, or low-grade fever. Applied to monitor viral infection activity and assess the need for therapy.
What the test evaluates:
- Presence of IgM antibodies to EBV early antigen
- Active infectious process: primary or reactivated infection
- Intensity of viral activity in chronic disease course
Biomaterial: Venous blood (serum)
- Draw blood fasting (8-12 hours after last meal)
- Still water is permitted
Medications:
Antiviral drugs and immunomodulators may distort results
- Immunoglobulins can affect indicators
- Inform physician of all medications taken
Recommended for:
- Active EBV infection and suspected reactivation
- Immune disorders or weakened immunity
- Pronounced infection symptoms, lasting intoxication, low-grade fever
Positive result (EA IgM detected): indicates active or reactivated EBV infection; may be combined with positive VCA IgM and EA IgG
Negative result (EA IgM not detected): active reactivation or primary infection unlikely; does not exclude latent EBV carriage
Note: For accurate interpretation, combined assessment with VCA IgM, VCA IgG, and EBNA IgG is recommended.
