EBV Viral Capsid Antigen (VCA) Antibodies IgG (Serum)
The study is aimed at detecting IgG class antibodies to the EBV viral capsid antigen (VCA).
Used for confirming past infection or assessing the late disease stage.
Applied for assessing the body's immune response to the Epstein-Barr virus.
Helps differentiate the acute, past, and latent stage of EBV infection in combination with other serological markers (VCA IgM, EA IgG, EBNA IgG).
What the test assesses:
– Presence of IgG antibodies to EBV VCA.
– Fact of past infection and formation of immunity.
– Late infection stage (IgG persists for a long time after primary infection).
Biomaterial: Venous blood (serum)
– Submit fasting (8-12 hours after the last meal).
– Drinking still water is allowed.
Medications:
– Antibacterial medication intake does not affect the result.
– Immunoglobulins and immunomodulators may affect indicators.
– It is recommended to notify the doctor about all medications taken.
Recommended for testing:
– To clarify the EBV infection stage and monitor immune response.
– With prolonged asthenia, intoxication, recurring viral infections.
– When assessing immune status, suspected immunodeficiency conditions.
– Positive result (VCA IgG detected): indicates past EBV infection and presence of lasting immunity.
– Negative result (VCA IgG not detected): no past infection; IgG may not yet have formed in the acute phase of infection — monitoring after 2-3 weeks is required.
Important — for precise determination of the infection stage, it is recommended to assess the result together with VCA IgM, EA IgG, and EBNA IgG.
