Factor II Activity
Factor II (prothrombin) activity assesses the functional capacity of one of the key blood clotting proteins. Factor II converts to thrombin, which promotes fibrin clot formation.
The study allows detection of factor II deficiency or dysfunction, assessment of bleeding or thrombosis tendency, and monitoring of anticoagulant therapy efficacy.
Test composition:
• Material: venous blood (plasma)
• Method: coagulometric method using thromboplastin
• Determined indicator: percentage of factor II functional activity relative to normal
Mechanism of abnormalities: decrease — congenital deficiency or prothrombin gene mutations, liver synthesis disorders, vitamin K deficiency, anticoagulant use, acute blood loss, or increased consumption of clotting factors in thrombosis. Elevated activity is rare.
Biomaterial: Venous blood (plasma)
• Submit blood fasting
• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
• Avoid physical exertion and stress 30 minutes before the test
Medications:
• If taking anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, hormonal medications, or potent drugs, inform the doctor before the test.
Prescribed for:
• Suspected hereditary or acquired deficiency of clotting factors
• Tendency to bleeding, spontaneous or after injuries
• Monitoring anticoagulant therapy (warfarin or direct thrombin inhibitors)
• Liver diseases
• Pregnancy with thrombophilia risk
• Before surgical procedures or after surgery
Recommended for:
• Patients with bleeding tendency or thrombophilia
• People with cardiovascular diseases
• Pregnant women with thrombophilia risk
Important — the indicator is assessed together with other coagulogram indicators and is not a standalone diagnostic criterion.
If abnormalities are detected: general practitioner, hematologist, cardiologist.
