Factor V Activity
Factor V activity assesses the functionality of one of the key blood clotting proteins involved in the common coagulation pathway. Factor V, together with factor X and prothrombin, ensures thrombin formation and fibrin clot formation.
Test composition:
• Material: venous blood (plasma)
• Method: coagulometric method using factor V-deficient plasma and thromboplastin
• Determined indicator: percentage of factor V functional activity relative to normal
Mechanism of abnormalities: decrease — hereditary deficiencies (Leiden-type disease), liver diseases, vitamin K deficiency, massive bleeding, or increased consumption of clotting factors. Elevated activity is rare.
Biomaterial: Venous blood (plasma)
• Submit blood fasting
• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
• Avoid physical exertion and stress 30 minutes before the test
Medications:
• If taking anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, hormonal medications, or potent drugs, inform the doctor before the test.
Prescribed for:
• Suspected hereditary factor V deficiency
• Tendency to bleeding, spontaneous or after injuries
• Monitoring anticoagulant therapy
• Liver diseases
• Pregnancy with thrombophilia risk
• Before surgical procedures or after surgery
Recommended for:
• Patients with bleeding tendency or thrombophilia
• People with cardiovascular diseases
• Pregnant women with thrombophilia risk
Important — the indicator is assessed together with other coagulogram indicators and is not a standalone diagnostic criterion.
If abnormalities are detected: general practitioner, hematologist, cardiologist.
