Factor XI Activity
Factor XI activity assesses the functionality of one of the blood clotting proteins involved in the intrinsic coagulation pathway. Factor XI activates factor IX, which promotes thrombin formation and fibrin clot formation.
Test composition:
• Material: venous blood (plasma)
• Method: coagulometric method using factor XI-deficient plasma
• Determined indicator: percentage of factor XI functional activity relative to normal
Mechanism of abnormalities: decrease — hereditary deficiencies (Rosenthal syndrome), liver diseases, massive blood loss, or increased consumption of clotting factors. Elevated activity is rare.
Biomaterial: Venous blood (plasma)
• Submit blood fasting
• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
• Avoid physical exertion and stress 30 minutes before the test
Medications:
• If taking anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, hormonal medications, or potent drugs, inform the doctor before the test.
Prescribed for:
• Suspected hereditary or acquired deficiency of clotting factors
• Tendency to bleeding, spontaneous or after injuries
• Monitoring anticoagulant therapy (warfarin or direct thrombin inhibitors)
• Liver diseases
• Pregnancy with thrombophilia risk
• Before surgical procedures or after surgery
Recommended for:
• Patients with bleeding tendency or thrombophilia
• People with cardiovascular diseases
• Pregnant women with thrombophilia risk
Important — the indicator is assessed together with other coagulogram indicators and is not a standalone diagnostic criterion.
If abnormalities are detected: general practitioner, hematologist, cardiologist.
