Free testosterone (Free Testosterone, Serum)
The test determines the level of free testosterone — the biologically active hormone fraction not bound to blood proteins. Free testosterone most accurately reflects hormonal activity and androgenic status. Used when androgen deficiency or excess is suspected, especially with normal total testosterone. Recommended for reduced libido, infertility, erectile dysfunction, hyperandrogenism signs in women.
What the test evaluates:
- Free testosterone concentration in blood serum
- Biologically active androgenic function
Biomaterial: Venous blood (serum)
- Draw blood fasting
- Exclude physical activity and stress 24 hours before
- Morning blood draw preferred (8:00-11:00)
Medications:
- Hormonal drug intake may affect results
- Medication discontinuation only by physician agreement

- Hirsutism and polycystic ovary syndrome

Elevated free testosterone in women: may indicate hyperandrogenism, polycystic ovary syndrome, or ovarian/adrenal tumors
Reduced level in men: hypogonadism, secondary endocrine disorders, or age-related decline
