GGT (Gamma-Glutamyltransferase)
Purpose of the test:
A liver and biliary tract enzyme used for assessing liver function and detecting bile outflow disorders.
The test helps:
- detect liver and biliary tract diseases
- diagnose cholestasis
- assess toxic liver damage (including alcoholic)
- monitor liver disease treatment efficacy
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Submit fasting (8-12 hours without food)
- Avoid alcohol and fatty food for 24-48 hours
- Avoid smoking and physical exertion/stress 30 minutes before
Medications: when taking medications (especially hepatotoxic ones) — inform the doctor; self-discontinuation of medications is not allowed
Prescribed for:
- liver and gallbladder diseases
- suspected bile outflow disorder
- alcohol abuse
- taking hepatotoxic medications
Elevation — liver diseases, cholestasis, alcoholic liver damage, taking certain medications
Normal — absence of pronounced liver function disorders
For abnormalities, consultation with a general practitioner and gastroenterologist is recommended. Self-treatment is contraindicated.
