Glucose (Blood Sugar)
Glucose is the body's main energy source. Glucose level shows how correctly carbohydrate metabolism functions and how the body regulates sugar via insulin.
The test is used for:
- diagnosing diabetes mellitus
- detecting prediabetes
- monitoring diabetes treatment
- assessing complication risk (vessels, kidneys, vision)
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Fasting for 8-12 hours
- Avoid alcohol and overeating for 24 hours
- Do not smoke or exert physically in the morning before the test
Prescribed for:
- thirst, dry mouth
- frequent urination
- sudden weight loss or gain
- weakness, drowsiness
- vision deterioration
- prolonged wound healing
- frequent infections
- pregnancy (gestational diabetes screening)
Recommended for testing:
- people with overweight
- with hereditary predisposition to diabetes
- with elevated blood pressure
- with elevated triglycerides/cholesterol
- for pregnant women (as prescribed)
Normal — carbohydrate metabolism is likely within normal range
Elevation — possible diabetes/prediabetes (requires confirmation)
Decrease — hypoglycemia (may be dangerous)
