HE-4 (Human Epididymis Protein 4)
Modern oncomarker of epithelial ovarian cancer. Allows detection of malignant processes at early stages. Used together with CA-125 for ROMA index calculation. Applied for treatment efficacy monitoring.
What the test evaluates:
- HE-4 concentration in blood
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting
Medications:
- Hormonal and antitumor drug intake may affect results
- Inform physician of ongoing therapy
- Medication discontinuation only by physician prescription
Recommended for:
- Suspected ovarian tumors
- Confirmed diagnosis and dynamic monitoring
Results evaluated only together with clinical data, ultrasound, and other oncomarkers.
Normal: HE-4 within reference values; low probability of malignant epithelial process
Elevated HE-4: characteristic of epithelial ovarian cancer; may occur in malignant endometrial tumors; less prone to elevation with benign gynecological diseases compared to CA-125
For improved diagnostic accuracy, ROMA index calculation is recommended.
