Hepatitis A Virus Antibodies, Anti-HAV IgM (Serum)
The test determines IgM class antibodies to the hepatitis A virus — a marker of acute infection.
Allows detection of acute hepatitis A at an early disease stage.
Used for diagnosis with symptoms of intoxication, jaundice, and elevated liver enzymes.
Applied in epidemiological examinations and with contact with infected persons.
Important: the test shows only the current acute phase of infection and does not reflect past hepatitis A.
What the test assesses:
• Presence of IgM antibodies to hepatitis A virus in serum
• Active phase of the disease
Biomaterial: Venous blood
• Submit fasting
• Avoid intense physical exertion for 24 hours
Medications:
• If possible, avoid antiviral and immunomodulatory medications for 24-48 hours
Recommended for testing:
• With symptoms of intoxication and jaundice
• When viral hepatitis A is suspected
• With liver function disorders
Important: results are assessed in combination with clinical data and liver function tests.
Negative result
— IgM antibodies not detected
— no signs of acute infection
Positive result
— presence of IgM antibodies
— confirms acute hepatitis A
Important: physician consultation and monitoring are required for a positive result
