Hepatitis B Total Core Antibodies, Anti-HBc Total (Serum)
The test determines total antibodies to the hepatitis B core antigen (Anti-HBc total).
Used to detect current or past hepatitis B virus infection even in the absence of HBsAg.
Helps diagnose hidden and latent forms of hepatitis B.
Recommended for clarifying infection status and in comprehensive assessment of hepatitis B markers.
Important: the test cannot distinguish acute from chronic infection without additional markers.
What the test assesses:
- Presence of total antibodies to HBcAg
- Fact of the body's contact with hepatitis B virus
Biomaterial: Venous blood
• Submit fasting
• Avoid physical exertion for 24 hours
Medications:
• If possible, avoid immunomodulatory medications for 24-48 hours
Recommended for testing:
• During preventive examination
• When viral hepatitis is suspected
• With liver diseases
• When planning and managing pregnancy
Important: results are assessed in combination with HBsAg, Anti-HBs, and clinical data.
Negative result
— antibodies not detected
— no signs of contact with hepatitis B virus
Positive result
— past or current hepatitis B virus infection
— possible hidden form of infection
Important: extended examination is recommended for a positive result.
