The test detects IgG and IgM class antibodies to the hepatitis C virus.
Used for screening and diagnosing acute and chronic hepatitis C virus infection.
Allows detection of infection even in asymptomatic disease course.
Recommended for elevated liver enzymes, before hospitalization, and surgical procedures.
Important: the test is a screening test, and a positive result requires confirmation by PCR.
What the test assesses:
• Presence of IgG and IgM antibodies to hepatitis C virus
• Fact of current or past infection
Biomaterial: Venous blood
• Submit fasting
• Avoid intense physical exertion for 24 hours
Medications:
• If possible, avoid antiviral medications for 24-48 hours
Recommended for testing:
• During preventive examination
• When viral hepatitis is suspected
• With liver diseases
• During pregnancy
Important: results are assessed in combination with clinical data and HCV PCR results.
Negative result
— antibodies to hepatitis C virus not detected
— no signs of contact with the virus
Positive result
— current or past hepatitis C virus infection
— confirmation of active infection required
Important: physician consultation and PCR diagnostics are necessary for a positive result.
