IGF-1 (Insulin-like growth factor 1, somatomedin)
The test determines the IGF-1 level — a hormone mediating growth hormone action and participating in body growth and development, protein, carbohydrate, and fat metabolism. Used for growth disorder diagnosis in children, growth hormone therapy monitoring, and somatic health assessment in adults.
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting 8-12 hours (no water);
- exclude intense physical activity 24 hours before;
- avoid stress and anxiety 30 minutes before.
- Inform physician of hormone or endocrine disease treatment drug intake.
- Delayed or accelerated growth in children;
- suspected growth hormone deficiency or excess;
- growth hormone therapy monitoring;
- acromegaly syndrome in adults;
- growth hormone-related metabolic disorders.
Normal level — growth hormone and somatomedin within normal range.
Elevated level — may indicate growth hormone excess (acromegaly).
Reduced level — may indicate growth hormone deficiency, liver function disorder, or nutritional deficiency.
