Insulin resistance assessment: fasting glucose, fasting insulin, HOMA-IR calculation
The test allows assessment of tissue insulin sensitivity and detection of insulin resistance. Includes fasting glucose determination, fasting insulin determination, and HOMA-IR calculation (Homeostatic Model Assessment). Used for early diagnosis of prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, PCOS, and obesity.
What the test evaluates:
- Fasting glucose level
- Fasting insulin concentration
- HOMA-IR index reflecting insulin resistance and pancreatic beta-cell functional state
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting
- Still water is permitted
- Exclude physical activity, stress, sweets, alcohol 24 hours before
Medications:
- Insulin, hypoglycemic drugs, glucocorticoids, hormonal agents may affect results
- Medication discontinuation only by physician agreement

- PCOS, ovulation disorders, menstrual irregularities
- Metabolic syndrome and elevated cardiovascular disease risk
Elevated HOMA-IR: indicates insulin resistance, possible prediabetes or metabolic syndrome
Normal HOMA-IR: normal tissue insulin sensitivity
Reduced HOMA-IR: rare, possible reduced insulin secretion with beta-cell insufficiency
Note: Glucose and insulin are measured simultaneously for HOMA-IR calculation.
