LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein)
Lipid metabolism marker reflecting the level of 'bad' cholesterol, which contributes to atherosclerotic plaque formation in blood vessels.
The test helps:
- assess atherosclerosis development risk
- detect fat metabolism disorders
- predict heart attack and stroke risk
- monitor diet and medication therapy efficacy
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Submit strictly fasting (8-12 hours without food)
- Water intake is allowed
- Avoid alcohol and fatty food for 24-48 hours
- Avoid smoking and physical exertion/stress 30 minutes before
Medications: when taking lipid-lowering drugs, hormones, and other medications — inform the doctor; self-discontinuation of medications is not allowed
Prescribed for:
- cardiovascular diseases
- arterial hypertension
- diabetes mellitus
- obesity and metabolic syndrome
- preventive examinations
Elevation — high risk of atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, heart attack, and stroke
Decrease — may occur with malnutrition, liver diseases, during therapy
For abnormalities, consultation with a general practitioner and cardiologist is recommended. Self-treatment is contraindicated.
