Myoglobin (Myoglobin, Serum)
The test is intended for determination of myoglobin level — an early marker of muscle tissue damage. Used for early diagnosis of myocardial infarction (elevated in the first hours). Applied for skeletal muscle trauma, rhabdomyolysis, and severe physical exertion.
What the test evaluates:
- Concentration of myoglobin in blood serum
- Presence of cardiac or skeletal muscle damage
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting
- Exclude intense physical activity 24 hours before
Medications:
- Some medications may affect myoglobin level
- Inform physician of all medications taken
Recommended for:
- Suspected acute myocardial infarction
- Muscle pain and trauma
- Muscle damage
Important: Results evaluated in combination with clinical data and other myocardial damage markers.
Negative result: myoglobin level within normal range; low probability of acute muscle tissue damage
Positive result: elevated myoglobin level; indicates cardiac or skeletal muscle damage
Important: Physician consultation required for positive or equivocal results.
