Prostate Secretion Analysis
Purpose of the test:
- Prostate secretion analysis is a laboratory test for assessing the functional status of the prostate gland.
- Helps detect inflammatory processes, infections, and changes related to hyperplasia or other prostate pathologies.
- The test is particularly informative for prostatitis, chronic and acute inflammation, urination problems, and monitoring treatment efficacy.
What the test assesses:
- General appearance of secretion — consistency, color, and clarity.
- Leukocytes — inflammatory process indicator.
- Erythrocytes — presence of damage or bleeding.
- Epithelial cells — cellular composition of the prostate.
- Mucus — presence of inflammation.
- Bacteriological elements — identification of pathogenic microflora.
Biomaterial: Prostate secretion obtained after prostate massage
- Avoid sexual contact for 2-3 days.
- The bladder should be empty before collection.
- Avoid alcohol and excessive physical exertion.
Medications: if possible, avoid antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs 24-48 hours before the test.
Recommended for testing:
- men with pain or discomfort in the perineum, groin, or lower abdomen
- with frequent, painful, or difficult urination
- when inflammatory prostate diseases (prostatitis) are suspected
- with decreased libido or sexual dysfunction
- with conception problems (as part of infertility workup)
- with changes in urine or semen analyses requiring clarification
- for monitoring prostate disease treatment efficacy
- Normal: clear or slightly cloudy secretion, absence of significant leukocyte and erythrocyte counts, absence of pathogenic microflora.
- Elevated leukocytes: indicate an inflammatory process (prostatitis, infection).
- Erythrocytes: may indicate injury, bleeding, or tumor process.
- Consistency or color changes: possible signs of congestion or prostate hyperplasia.
- Presence of bacteria: confirms bacterial infection, requires antibiotic sensitivity clarification.
