Serum Bile Acids (ELISA Method)
The test detects bile acid concentration in blood serum, allowing assessment of liver and biliary tract function. Used for diagnosing cholestasis, liver diseases, and bile duct diseases.
Mechanism of abnormalities: elevated bile acid concentration indicates bile outflow disorder or decreased liver function.
Recommended for:
- people with chronic liver diseases
- with jaundice or skin/mucosa color change
- with suspected cholestasis
- for monitoring liver disease treatment
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Submit fasting (8-12 hours without food)
- Do not drink water
- Avoid alcohol, fatty food, and heavy physical exertion for 24 hours
- Avoid stress
Medications: if taking liver or biliary tract medications — inform the doctor
- Suspected liver or biliary tract diseases
- Digestive disorders, bloating, bitter taste in mouth
- Elevated liver enzymes (ALT, AST, GGT, alkaline phosphatase)
- Chronic liver diseases
- Monitoring liver disease therapy
Normal — bile acid concentration within reference values
Elevation — indicates liver or biliary tract function disorder
Which doctor to consult:
For test abnormalities, consultation with a hepatologist or gastroenterologist is recommended. The doctor evaluates laboratory results, clarifies clinical symptoms, and if needed prescribes treatment.
Self-treatment is not recommended!
