Stool culture for typhoid fever and paratyphoids A, B with antibiotic sensitivity determination
Detects Salmonella Typhi and Salmonella Paratyphi in intestine; determines antibiotic sensitivity for most effective treatment selection. Confirms typhoid or paratyphoid diagnosis. Especially important for severe, prolonged, or complicated disease forms.
Deviation mechanism: Typhoid/paratyphoid pathogens enter intestine and are excreted in stool. Salmonella Typhi/Paratyphi infection causes systemic and intestinal symptoms. Culture detects microorganism quantity and antibiotic sensitivity.
Recommended for: acute intestinal infection and fever symptom patients; suspected typhoid fever or paratyphoid; prolonged/recurrent intestinal disorder monitoring; endemic region epidemiological observation.
Stool in sterile container
Avoid antibiotics 48-72 hours before (by physician agreement)
Do not use laxatives or enemas 24 hours before
Collect fresh stool (not older than 2-3 hours)
Deliver to laboratory as quickly as possible
Prolonged fever of unknown origin; stool disorders including diarrhea; abdominal pain and dyspepsia; weakness, headache, intoxication; suspected typhoid or paratyphoid; epidemiological indications.
Salmonella Typhi or Paratyphi detected — bacterial count and antibiotic sensitivity listed; physician selects individual treatment.
Not detected — pathogens not found.
Physician makes final assessment.
Note: Sensitivity testing only when clinically significant organism detected.
Recommended physicians: Infectious disease specialist; General Practitioner; Pediatrician (children).
