Syphilis RPR Test
Purpose of the test:
- Syphilis RPR is a serological laboratory test for detecting syphilis at early stages.
- Used for diagnosing the infectious process, monitoring therapy, and screening pregnant women.
- Particularly recommended when venereal disease is suspected, for patients with unexplained rashes, lymphadenopathy, or other infection symptoms.
Biomaterial: Capillary blood
- Submit fasting.
- Avoid physical and emotional exertion before the test.
Medications: if possible, avoid taking drugs affecting blood composition (anticoagulants, antibiotics) 24-48 hours before the test.
What the test assesses:
- Presence of antibodies to Treponema pallidum — confirmation or exclusion of syphilis.
- Indirect signs of infection — immune response activity.
- Negative result: no antibodies to syphilis detected — infection is unlikely.
- Positive result: antibodies to Treponema pallidum detected — possible early-stage syphilis, confirmatory testing required (TPHA, FTA-ABS).
- Questionable result: possible serological reaction due to other infections or chronic diseases — repeat testing in 1-2 weeks recommended.
Which doctor to consult:
- Dermatovenereologist — diagnosis and treatment of venereal diseases.
- General practitioner — initial assessment and referral for additional testing.
- Obstetrician-gynecologist — for pregnant women screening.
