Thymol Turbidity Test
The test is used for assessing liver and biliary tract function. The thymol turbidity test shows the liver's ability to synthesize plasma proteins, which is important for detecting liver diseases and monitoring their course.
Mechanism of abnormalities: decreased ability to precipitate thymol indicates decreased liver synthetic function. Results help detect the severity of liver damage and protein metabolism disorders.
Recommended for:
- people with liver or biliary tract diseases
- with suspected hepatitis, cirrhosis, or cholestasis
- for monitoring treatment and dynamics of liver diseases
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Submit fasting (8-12 hours without food)
- Do not drink water
- Avoid fatty food, alcohol, and intense physical exertion for 24 hours
Medications: if taking liver medications or other drugs — inform the doctor
- Suspected chronic or acute liver diseases
- Jaundice or skin and mucosa color change
- Elevated liver enzymes (ALT, AST, GGT)
- Monitoring therapy for hepatitis and other liver pathologies
Normal — thymol precipitate forms within standard time (usually 5-7 minutes)
Abnormality — increased precipitation time or its absence indicates decreased liver synthetic function
